Potato Gard

Systemic fungicide

Introducing Potato Gard, a low-risk systemic fungicide. Potato Gard is an EPA-registered fungicide with Potassium Phosphite as its active ingredient. Renowned for its disease resistance-inducing properties, Potato Gard provides effective control of diseases caused by Phytophthora and Pythium, such as Pink Rot, Late Blight, and Damping-off.

Potato Gard can reduce the severity of Early Blight (Alternaria solani) and Bacterial Wilt (Ralstonia solanacearum). Disease infections often result from a series of oxidative reactions in plant tissues. The PO₃⁻ (phosphite) in Potato Gard stimulates the production of antioxidant enzymes, which helps minimize pathogen-induced tissue damage. It also induces the production of salicylic acid and jasmonic acid within the plant, promoting the accumulation of pathogenesis-related (PR) proteins that protect the plant from direct pathogen attacks.

In addition, PO₃⁻ interferes with the cell wall biosynthesis pathways in Phytophthora and Pythium, thereby inhibiting pathogen growth. Potato Gard offers protective benefits during both the growing season and postharvest storage period.
